Organizational Performance

Why Are Teams Important

Teams are a fundamental part of working life. They account for the vast majority of work done in organizations. Yet it's one thing to create a team, quite another to create one that works. Just as it's one thing to join a team, but quite another to perform as a team member. To put it simply, teams don't work without teamwork.

There are several ways to define teamwork, but perhaps one of the most memorable is the French expression: esprit de corps. This means a sense of unity and enthusiasm for common interests and responsibilities, as developed among a group of people closely associated with a task, cause, enterprise, etc.

Teamwork can be likened to two compounds, almost essential to modern life. It's the glue that keeps a team together, a bond that promotes strength, unity, reliability, and support.

Teamwork is also the oil that makes teamwork. It can enable smoother movement toward targets, prolong forward momentum, and help teams overcome obstacles.

Teams Are A Driving Force

Teams can be a driving force for organizational performance, and managers can play a key role in teams' ultimate success or failure. So, how can you find ways to get along and create a successful team? Trust and respect are essential for building relationships in the workplace and beyond. It’s all about your relationships with people, which doesn’t necessarily mean friendships. Relationships are built over time when one person respects another. Gradually, trust beings to build, too. You don’t have to be a close personal friend with everyone at work, but you should always show each person respect and professionalism.
